I think I just heard a collective gasp as the thrifting community read my headline …
Seriously. Thrifting is supposed to be about spontaneity. The thrill of the find. The open mind. The imagine the possibilities …
I’m worried if the thrifting community catches wind of my unorthodox thrift store ways they may try to shut me down …
… bar me from every Salvation Army and Goodwill west of the Mississippi … and east and north and south for that matter too …
Who knows? They may even try to take down the blog.
I mean, they are a passionate group, after all. Those dumpster diving, yard sale-ing, thrift store aficionados.
Me? I’m still very new to this thrifting thing. A newbie. An infant …
So it should come as no surprise that I visit the thrift store with a list. I mean, I’ve fessed up that nothing gets done around here without a list … and that I’m a planner … and that I actually pin on Pinterest with a purpose …
And it also shouldn’t come as a surprise when this list-carrying-and-list-consulting thrifter shares this Salvation Army find with you …
Oh yeah. White dessert plates.
Thrilling.
Enthralling.
Edge of your seat exciting …
… and posed against the backdrop of my newly redecorated screen porch …
… where they will be used to serve up some tasty desserts this summer right here …
I’ve been slowing replacing my everyday dishes with the simplicity of white. They do complement all four food groups after all …
And my new everyday place settings? They will all come to me to be stored in my kitchen cabinets from thrift stores. Nothing will be purchased retail …
… I mean, just look at these Pottery Barn white dessert plates. They retail for $20 for a set of four. My seven plates were $.99 each … for a total of $7.00. I also threw in four Ikea plates for $.99 each too …
Now, I realize my list-carrying-and-list-consulting thrift store ways probably means I’ll miss out on some amazing finds.
You know, as I’m busy consulting my list I may walk right past some long lost priceless piece of art nestled amongst the felt painted poker playing dogs.
Maybe I should just put “find long lost priceless piece of art” on my thrifting list …
And before I go … on this Memorial Day holiday weekend … I wanted to share with you a saying I discovered while reading a post from one of my favorite bloggers, Bliss Ranch …
P.S. Have you taken it outside yet? No? Well you need to get a move on. Our multi-blog “The Great Outdoors” Mission Possible link party kicks off here at 7 AM EST on Tuesday, May 29 …

I have a list of things I’m searching for, it goes hand in hand with the great finds of the moment. I also have a list of things NOT to buy… those things that tempt you but you really don’t need or truly want – they’re just dust catchers. Oh yeah, I’ve perfected my art of thrifting, garage sale’ing and buying on sale. Lists are the way to go! 🙂

Great find on the plates and the table setting looks really inviting!
Love the saying you shared today!

I have a list too, and my daughter gave me a list for her as well. Of course I still look at EVERYTHING but the list is to remind me of what I am on the hunt for (because I forget!).

that is the best shout out I’ve ever got due to the content, thanks

I’m so jealous of people who have stores to thrift from! We have one Goodwill and the selection is always dismal. I need to make a trip over to Seattle one of these days baby-less to try and find something!

Love the white plate bargains and love the turquoise plates/tray too. I have exactly the same ones
here
I got them last year in the clearance section in Target

Linda,
I am one who does not have a list on hand. But I do have one in my head.I always have things I am looking for.But still look for inspired pieces too.Aren’t white dishes the best. They go with everything.I am very envious of your screen porch. That on my wish list.It is pretty hot here today.Don’t know if today is cool enough to sit out there or not.But if you have a fan and a margarita it could work.
((((Hugs))))

Oh, Lawd…a list? Are you one of those *shudder* ORGANIZED people? I buy anything I get a ‘vibe’ from. But I will say this….I can usually use it or make a profit from it!

I NEVER find anything at our “thrift” stores….I think that maybe people “camp out” overnight or something to get that great deal….or highjack the cars coming into the “drop off area”…with aprons over their mouth waving a spoon, looking into the cars for good stuff…..gotta get in the “game”….
You scored on those PB plates…so how did you do it…?…camp out, or wear the apron mask?

Yippie – I am honored to be called a dumpster diving aficionado!
But a thrifting list?! Maybe you could find some fabulous thrifted notebooks for all your list making endeavors?

I always have a list of things that I’m looking for at the thrifts. But it’s kinda long. And it’s kinda in my head… Does that count??

I love me a good thrift find! And if you go without a list you buy a lot of stuff you really don’t need!!! Have a great Memorial Day!

I can honestly say I am always so glad I found your blog, always love what you’re doing. I need to make lists as I get to the thrift store and forget what I’m looking for. We only have one thrift store close to us (5 miles away) so I rarely get to others in Grand Junction. We live aways from G.J. and with gas what it is I don’t get to go thrifting too much to find those awesome deals. After seeing your gorgeous white plates I need to look more closely at our close thrift store. I don’t usually pay any attention to that stuff but I will be now. I am starting to love ironstone and white plates. You bloggers are really bad for my wallet, I see all these awesome things and think I want them too.
We have so much competition for the goodies at our local thrift shop as they’re closed Sunday thru Tuesday. There’s a line to get in on Wed. a.m. but one of these days I’m gonna get my lazy butt up and give the other thrifters some competition, it’s about time if I want those bargains.
Our Goodwi in G.J. is pretty pricey but maybe I’ll score a deal one of these days if I ever get to go there. Usually my hubs is with me when I go to town and he finds all kinds of reasons why “I don’t need to waste time there” as he puts it. Sometimes he’s just no fun at all. I get a choice, it’s the craft stores or the thrift store. At my age I don’t know why I have to make choices like that. Total bummer.

Party Day tomorrow!! I hope you’re enjoying your long weekend.

I went thrifting with a list this weekend! (Will share all at your party tomorrow.) I swing both ways–often have a list, but am easily distracted by some thing I never knew I needed until I saw it. Your porch is lovely–very pretty!

I’m a passionate thrifter, and I’ll still read your blog, even though you use a list. If the list thing works with long-lost art, let me know and I’ll start making better lists!

I so love the look of your screened porch 🙂
White plate really do feature food well.
Ours are mostly white – except for 2 thin stripes of red which coordinate with our kitchen.
All the best,
Dana
