From time to time, the blog and I have to sit down and have a heart-to-heart.
And, no, this isn’t the post where I tell you I’m closing up shop. The shop will stay open. The shop hours, however, may change.
For the short term.
I think it’s important to look back at why I started this blog. And what I hoped the blog would become …
and, the hardest part of all, ask the question “have I accomplished those goals?”
Truth be told, the answer is a resounding no.
I started this blog as a journey. A journey to update the look and feel of our interior spaces …
and documenting that journey along the way.
On this blog.
And while I’ve made great strides in updating the living and dining room spaces this year …
{dining room can be found here; living room can be found here}
and the entry, powder room, and my son’s teen room makeovers in the previous year …
I really thought I’d be much further along at this point.
Two years later.
I thought my canvas would be complete. Or close to complete …
oh who am I kidding, the canvas would never be fully completed.
But I was hoping to venture into the world of tweaking.
And in the world of tweaking, my journey would move onto a new path. A path that would use my tweakable completed canvas not as the topic of discussion …
but as a backdrop for exciting new things.
Smaller projects that didn’t involve full room makeovers …
Or caulk or glue guns or an entryway filled with boxes and rugs waiting for rooms to be completed.
Now I realize today is the official Christmas kick-off. And now that my living and dining room canvases are completed I have ideas on how to decorate these spaces for the holidays …
and these ideas will include a fair amount of new DIY.
So December should be filled with Christmas crafts and decor.
But come January, big changes are in store.
Changes that put ‘my canvas’ at the forefront …
which, at times, might mean the blog is at the backfront. Which is not a word. But you get the point, right?
The long and short of it is my posting schedule will be a bit erratic as I focus on achieving the initial blog goals …
working on the canvas …
so that we can all – together – move towards that new path on this blogging journey of mine …
P.S. My most recent “canvas” project is the kid’s bathroom. Which is almost complete. I’m just tackling the final details. And touch ups. So check back next week. Trust me, it’s a seriously dramatic before and after …

I totally understand! Blogging has taken a back seat to pretty much everything for me! I’ll be happy to see whatever you post, whenever you post it!

My canvas totally needs work too. I always have all these great “smaller” ideas, but then I feel like I have nowhere appropriate to put them when I’m done, just all of these half-renovated rooms with walls torn out or pieces of floor missing. I’ve been thinking about my canvas a lot too and I think it’s a great investment of a little bit of time, in the long run. Good luck!

Good for you for putting the blog on the background! I could take a cue from that. Sometimes I wonder how much I might be able to achieve in my home if I took an entire month off from blogging. That is a bold step, and I think I would miss it. But the idea is becoming more appealing all the time! We take vacations from other forms of work, why not our blogsI Looking forward to what you are sharing in December and what you will be sharing in February!
