When I started this blog, I made a promise to you ….
… a promise that I never verbalized …
… so I guess you could say I made this ‘silent’ promise to myself …
The promise was to never, ever treat this blog like a Facebook page posting …
You know, just random ramblings about things in your life …
… like what you are eating (with accompanying photo of said dish) … your hideous morning commute (with accompanying photo of said traffic jam) … your child’s antics (with accompanying photo of said child covered in pudding) …
… and now I’m going to break that promise. Just two-and-a-half months into blogging. That must be a record.
But it’s not my fault. Really. I blame it on the media. Chicago media, to be more precise.
You see, we are expecting our first snow. Four-to-eight inches, according to Tom Skilling …
But the media is reporting on this like a blizzard is barreling down on us …
“Send us your snow photos” begs ABC … “visit our live salt truck cam” begs WGN … “call us with your first snowflake sighting” begs CBS … and on and on …
You get it. Overkill. Seriously? How long have these people lived here?
So, Chicago media, grow up.
Unless you are predicting this …
… may I suggest you pull up your big boy – or big girl – pants and calm down …
Sorry for breaking my promise … but I promise that we will return to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow …
… unless of course we get snowed in under a whopping four inches …

ROFL!
Yeah. Our local school superintendent said, to paraphrase, “We live in Chicago. It will snow this week – and be blustery. Might wanna go look for those glove. Oh, and no, we aren’t planning to close school.”
Of course, if we get something like THIS – http://www.cookingatcafed.com/2011/02/stormbound-show-us-your-pantry-or-snow.html – I’ll be huddled up with some homemade soup.
All the best,

lol11! i love it! i know exactly what you are talking about though — they make so much about everything lately! it’s the same thing here in jersey — i do believe that the Chicago breed can handle 8 inches without a blink of an eye! well enjoy your first snow — we had 12 inches back in the beginning of november (yes — november) and now nothing (watch now that i said that… : ) rant away my friend — i LOVE IT!!! hugs…

Seriously. I go CRAZY about this subject. We live in the midwest, the fact that it’s snowing in January should barely be considered NEWS. Last year when that storm hit (from picture above) I was the person saying “Oh please, they’re just trying to scare everyone and get ratings again!” Then the blizzard came and I was eating my words!! hahahaha, but really, stop talking about the snow news people, there’s a whole world of news going on out there, can’t you find anything more interesting to report about? 😉 And Cafe D, are you a fellow Chicagoan? I didn’t realize!

This made me laugh! I’m in Kansas and we get nailed with every sort of weather pattern you can imagine (even a couple earthquakes this year!) and EVERY single storm, snowflake, light breeze seems to be news worthy. Too funny!

haha! So true–the other thing I hate is the glee with which people on the weather channel tell you that a crazy storm is headed your way–it’s like they are thrilled to have a story to tell!
I am a new follower of your blog. Thanks for stopping by and following my blog!

Well, I think it’s because it has been so mild thus far–they’re doing the same think here with temps. (“Oooh! It’s going to be in the 30s and 40s!”) and I want to yell at the tv, “It’s JANUARY, Dumba$$!” But I don’t. because my husband is looking for a reason to get me to the psych ward for a complete evaluation.
