… with the alternate headline, “an equal opportunity pillow.”
Would I categorize myself as a feminist?
I’m not sure.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m a huge fan of equal rights. I’m passionate about woman getting equal pay for equal intelligence … equal training … equal jobs.
And I would like to think that if women like Susan B. Anthony, Ellizabeth Cady Stanton, Gloria Steinem … and, heck, even Jane Fonda … hadn’t stood up, spoken up, and pushed for those equal rights that we women in the U.S. enjoy today …
… I would like to think that I would’ve taken that lead. Grabbed that bullhorn … and marched alongside those brave bullhorned women as they challenged the status quo …
I would like to think that if I was a young women in the late 1800’s, I would’ve been a card-carrying member of National Woman Suffrage Association …
… and the American Woman Suffrage Association.
And would’ve stood arm-in-arm with Lucy Stone, Elizabeth Blackwell, and Julia Ward Howe …
… as we stood our ground and demanded the right to vote.
If I was a young woman in the late 60’s? Well, I like to think Gloria Steinem and I would’ve been BFFs …
… and together we would’ve enjoyed some passionate feminist-fueled luncheon discussions with our other besty, Jane Fonda …
And who knows? There may have been some bra burning after a few glasses of wine.
But in today’s world of handmade ware known as Etsy, you can find a Mr. & Mrs. pillow set to match just about any taste. And I’ve recently thrown my very own drop cloth designs into the mix …
… the monogram only with a button period accent …
… and the rosette embellished versions. Either one would make perfect wedding or anniversary gifts.
However, I realized there was something missing. And I got to thinking of the feminists. And the single gals. And all those women who proudly wear their “Ms.” moniker …
… and how that hold-their-heads-high-proud “Ms.” marketplace was being underserved …
… so I went ahead and stocked the Etsy with a Ms. pillow too …
… including this rosette adorned one.
And I’d like to think Lucy Stone would’ve been proud to rest her weary head – or aching feet — on her very own monogrammed Ms. pillow after a long, hard day of protesting for the very rights that we, at times, take for granted today …
And make sure you come back on Tuesday, July 31 for our multi-blog link party …
Let’s keep in touch …

LOVE LOVE LOVE! and this post reminds me of college and all that i read and all that i believed in…. i was well on my way to being an activist of some sort. i have an advisor who just adored me and she was a bit….. radical. i think she was trying to groom me. i still have my beliefs, and this just reminded me not to forget.

Super cute idea – I really think the Mr should have hammers instead of rosettes though…
Peggy says
A Mr. with a hammer? What a great idea!! And a Mrs. with a rolling pin…. 🙂 ONe way or the other all I know is I think you pillows are great! Following your tutorials I’ve made a couple so far…. if I could only figure out where they are! I think a teenage boy or two may have run off with them! It happens… and it also lets me know when a pillow is a success. So thank you for the inspiration!! 🙂

I love the Ms. pillow with the rosettes! You’re on to something there I think. We can “feminist-minded” and still have a girly side.

Girls I went to college with thought I was a bra burning feminist. But in reality, I like bras. This pillow would be a much better way to show off my feminism 😉
Erin @ His and Hers says
So pretty! Gloria Steinem was also a Playboy bunny. That will surely be the next way you acknowledge feminism in your shop, right?
