Dear Front Porch,
May I share my condolences with you in advance?
My condolences to those pretty little daisies that I dressed you up with a few weeks ago during a freakish spurt of unconventional March warmth here in Chicago …
Because after 17 years of cohabitating …
… with my walking up and down your steps day in and day out …
… sometimes 2 or 3 or 4 or more times a day …
… and resting on your rocker — one of the very first purchases made when we moved in …
… and sitting on that top step as I watched the kids play out front …
With me giving you a facelift (here) …
After all our years together. Bonding. Sharing. Growing. Loving.
You know full well that those pretty little daisies don’t stand a chance of surviving …
They will be overwatered. The will be under-watered. They may even get a lethal dose of Miracle Grow (and that’s a post for another day) …
… and they will die a slow and painful and ugly death.
But Front Porch, I want to make sure you know that I had good intentions. I didn’t mean to cause any harm. I was just trying to enhance your beauty. I was so excited that, after months of brown and blah, I could embellish you with life …
But really I can’t be blamed. We both know I have a brown thumb. The only things I can manage to grow around here are giant Apocalypse-defying weeds …
P.S. Those hydrangeas in the planter at they bottom of the steps? Yeah, they don’t stand a chance either …
P.P.S. Have you heard about the Pillowpalooza link party? It ‘s open until midnight EST on April 27. Click on the pic to enter …
P.P.P.S. The Pillowpalooza link party is in celebration of my new Etsy. Click on the pic to learn more …
P.P.P.P.S. And I’m giving away a free monogrammed pillow to celebrate the Etsy opening. Click here to enter …
I’m sharing my plant woes here …

Hehe. I’ve always said that I’ve got a black thumb since the only plants that survive around here are they ones that thrive on neglect.
Cute porch. Love the numbered steps.
Wish I was good at sewing so I could make a pillow for your pillowpalooza. Good luck with your etsy shop.

i feel for your plants- they can sympathize with my own porch plants. yes, they look so pretty now. but i know under their blooms my plants are quivering and just waiting to meet their maker.

Hahaha! I have this little talk with every plant that gets the misfortune of being purchased by me. They don’t stand a chance.

I also have a black thumb and there is only one answer for a black thumb………….replacing the plants that died with new identical ones and tell no one…………lol

Your porch looks amazing, love the numbers what a bit of fun and that rocking chair is perfect. Is it bad to have fake plants out the front I wonder? At least then you wouldnt have to remember to water them!

They look great! Who knows, maybe your luck will change 🙂

Maybe you should move your sewing machine to the porch this year. You are going to be busy making pillows and then you could keep an eye on the daisy’s.

Might I suggest some succulents?
PS LOVE the new shop! Nice job 🙂

Put those kids to work watering – isn’t that why we have them!
Or, who knows, you could be single-handedly responsible for making the weed the new must have!

Hahaha, I feel like we should sit on your porch and share a glass of wine while we have a daisy funeral and give the porch encouraging words about your intentions and desires and thankfulness. 🙂

“Those hydrangeas…don’t stand a chance, either!”
ROFL!

Linda, your steps look great and maybe the plant will make it. 🙂
Have a great day.

Love your square planters/pots. Mind if I ask where you found them?
thanks.
Lisa in IL says
They are going to stop flowering because they are not daisies they are mums & they should be planted in the ground for fall foliage. Next time plant marigolds – if the can survive a fast food parking lot they can certainly survive a porch. but wait to plant until after mother’s day or they too will die
Brandi says
Well they sure look good from here. I do better with house plants versus outdoor plants. Love your painted steps btw!

I lived in the midwest for years and can completely related to your fickle weather misfortune. I’m sure your porch still loves you and understands you were only trying to make it better. 🙂
I’m visiting from the Someday Crafts linky party. I hope that you can stop by my blog as well. 🙂
Thanks for sharing and a greener thumb next time,
Laura

Linda. Linda, Linda (I always feel stupid being the 30th commenter)–growing things is like any other skill. It just takes a little practice. It took me about nine years down here to figure it out…and I killed a lot of stuff in the meantime. The first time you sat down at a sewing machine, did you know how to make a fabulous pillow??
