I’m what you’d call a regular. In fact, that’s one of the strongest traits my husband and I share. Our regular-ness-ess …
When we go out, it’s to the same bar. The same restaurant. Over and over. They know us when we walk through the door. We’re a couple of modern day Norms …
And before we bought our house we walked around the neighborhood. A lot. On the look out for our new regular haunts. Our regular mom and pop convenience store. Our regular Irish neighborhood bar. Our regular go out to lunch comfort food restaurant. All within walking distance.
And back then when I decorated our house? My approach was what you would call regular. Safe. I bought – and used things – as they were intended.
You know. A ladder was a ladder. Something to climb on as I painted the walls. It never occurred to me to slap it on the wall as a book shelf or hang it in the kitchen as a pot rack …
Yardsticks? Yeah, they were used to measure things. Not as tabletops and stair risers …
A chandelier was something that hung from the ceiling. It didn’t sit on the floor as a coffee table. And it was certainly never made out of a bunch of old (excuse me, vintage) flashlights …
And wreaths? They were made from branches or twigs or evergreens or Styrofoam wreath forms … not garden hoses or terracotta pots. And they were always, always round. Never, ever square …
… until now.
Picture frame wreaths first caught my eye in the blogosphere around the holiday season — and I’m sure they date back long before I ever dreamed of starting a blog — but they’re new to me.
And my version was relatively easy to make. But I wouldn’t categorize it as peasy. Mostly because there were more than just these three ingredients to make this particular ‘recipe.’
I started with my $.99 thrift store frame and a $2.50 wooden B from the craft store. Both were primed. The frame got a coat of red and the B a coat of white. Once dry, both were foam brushed with some poly. I figured since they’d be hanging around outside they could benefit from some extra protection from the elements…
Then I sewed a black ribbon on the edge of my black and white remnant fabric. Said fabric was stretched and stapled to the back of the picture frame …
The B was dangled using a coordinating strip of fabric staple gunned into place. And since I’m not one to just leave things alone, I glue gunned a couple of drop cloth rosettes in the corner.
All that was left: Hang from the door for all to admire …
… and admired it was by the adorable little boy next door who was all excited because his name starts with a B too …
Now I realize my monogram picture frame wreath is by no means some wild and crazy decorating risk …
… but it is a baby step in helping to make me not quite so ‘regular’ anymore …

THAT IS AWESOME! And in no way, shape (heh) or form is it “regular.”
This was a great post in more ways than one. Thanks, Linda.
Very well done, indeed!

Oh, honey…at my age, I’m thrilled to be ‘regular.’ Wait. That isn’t what you meant, was it?

You’re sure thinking outside the box when it comes to decorating anc crafts. This is a really cool project. Thanks for visiting me. I hope to link up some more as I get my backyard going. How about front yards? We recently spruced up our front landscaping. Come check out the potting table makeover at the post about the Great Outdoors.
Hubby and I are kind of regulars too, same gas station, same grocery store, I do change-up my route home from work from time to time but have my same regular stops on the way home.

I Love it Linda! That red frame has a definite pop, a ‘stepping out of the box’ kind of pop, for sure! Love the square shape, too. Very, very wild and crazy! 🙂

I LOVE it!! What a great idea. It looks fun and fresh. You may be regular, but you sure aren’t boring!
P.S. My hubs and I are a couple of Norms as well! (it’s always been out little joke!)
Have a great weekend!

I’m a Norm too, but I wasn’t at first. I became this way over the last 15 years. Now I feel a turnaround, so what does that make me? Nottanorm?
Pinned the wreath.

Shouldn’t that monogram be “N” for Norms!!
Being regular is for wimps (but if you want to be – there’s always Activia)!

I would’ve never thought to hang a picture frame on my front door, but now you’ve got my little mind spinning! 🙂 By the way, I’m a total blog-post-skimmer, but I just realized that I never never never skim your posts. I get all sucked in and before I know it, I’ve read the whole thing word-for-word and I’m trying to come up with fun new things to hang on my door. Well done, lady! 🙂
