Foolishly, I thought I was prepared in advance before launching the blog.
I did my due diligence and spent months visiting diy home décor blogs. I voraciously read post-after-post about the ins and outs and pros and cons and do’s and don’ts.
But there really isn’t anything that can prepare you for the overwhelming time commitment. It truly is a full-time job – especially if you set a crazy goal of posting at least one new thing a day. And not just any new thing. Something original. And substantial. With photos. That require photo shoots. And Picasa editing. Maybe a ‘”how to.” A before and after. And a bit of wit and personality here and there? Oh, and if you’re anal like me about the written word — editing, editing, and more editing. By the time I post a post, I’m pretty much bored with the project and the topic and the words … and me. And then I revisit it days later … and make more changes.
That said, I really am enjoying the whole experience. No, really. I’m being honest. This blogging community is amazingly supportive. I love to write. I love to create. And I love to write about what I love to create.
But you know what I would really love? An assistant who does more than nap all day …
Looking forward to the week ahead …
The sun finally came out and I took hundreds of photos of the kitchen remodel for the promised first stop on the home tour …
I hate them all.
Now I know why so many diy bloggers haul their projects outdoors for photos. Natural light rules. Unfortunately, I don’t have that option with the kitchen.
I’m also determined to get moving on my son’s room remodel. I was hoping to offset costs by selling furniture we no longer need on craigslist. I just can’t seem to find a taker for these A, B, C boxes …
They’re high quality, solid pine Pottery Barn buys. I’m ready to give them away for free – so if you’re in the Chicago area and want to pick them up, just let me know ….
And now I’ll end this post with the official closing ceremonies of our screened-in porch. I was holding out for one of those fluky November days when it’s suddenly 70 and sunny — oh wait, that might be happening today?!
Too late.
Earlier this week I gave in and the crazy abundance of placemat pillows were moved indoors for storage ….
Oh, and did I mention that I’m up to 4,300 page views? The chalkboard door feature at Home Stories A 2 Z and the numbered porch steps feature at Lolly Jane Boutique really drew in a lot of visitors. Thanks Beth and Kelli & Kristi!

You are right. When you just start out you don’t realize it’s more then just posting ideas here and there. It’s a job.
