I’ll let you in on a little secret.
You see that pillow there …
That very same pillow I made for my son’s room remodel here …
That very same pillow that I’m selling at my new Etsy shop here …
Turns out my teen son doesn’t much care for that very same pillow.
Not because of how it looks …
… well, I don’t think he’s offended by the look …
But because it didn’t pass the head test.
You see, the buttons were not comfortable to rest his head upon.
Clearly he doesn’t get the concept of a throw pillow. The decorative “your head is never, ever welcome here” throw pillow …
But I don’t hold it against him. I mean, what self-respecting teen boy would get excited about a monogrammed throw pillow?
Truth be told, when my son heard that the “s” pillow I made him is called a throw pillow …?
And that’s where the ‘head test fail’ pillow now resides.
On the floor …
If you’d like to make your very own drop cloth monogrammed ribbon & button throw pillow for your very own son to toss onto the floor, you’ll need to start with some canvas drop cloth material. I always wash mine first.
And then you can follow the tutorial on how to make an envelope pillow cover and monogram transfer that I’ve already shared here …
But instead of the rosettes used to embellish the pillow on that tutorial, I pinned and then top-stitched ribbon onto the fabric using color-coordinated thread.
Like I did on this pillow I made for my nephew …
… and then hand sewed on four buttons …
Now …
… if you don’t have the time to make one of these pillows yourself. Don’t worry.
I’m more than happy to make one for you …
P.S. You can still link up at the Pillowpalooza link party …
P.P.S. I’m giving away a free monogrammed pillow as part of my Etsy shop Grand Opening. Click here to enter …

Aren’t teen boys such comics??? or at least they think they are…and believe me..as adults they remain the same…comics that are off your payroll…!
Congrats on your Etsy Shop….I know you will do very well!!…

Males…in general…do not “get” throw pillows! Looking forward to your pillow party tomorrow. I have been on a bit of a pillow fest myself!
Krystle @ Color Transformed Family says
Congratulations on the opening of your Etsy shop! I’ll be back tomorrow for the pillow party. I didn’t get crafty and make on but I did find a really cute while out shopping. The best part is that I have been meaning to get one for a long time but have just been putting it off.

Boys seem to be the least pillow savvy. Mine told me that burlap would be uncomfortable to lay on, when I said I was making some pillows out of it. Lay on the decorative pillows? No wonder I don’t have any.

My son will be equally unappreciative when I give him the decorative throw pillow I am making for his bed. He will most likely just throw it on the floor and occasionally step on it. Glad you got your shop open! I will have to check it out!
Erin @ His and Hers says
hahaha BOYS. I happen to adore throw pillows, but my husband, well…my husband shares your son’s sentiments about their lack of comfort and use as projectiles.
Your pillow is so cute!

Guys – they are so decorating challenged!
Of course, who needs a tutorial when they can just head over to your Etsy shop and pick up one of your fabulous pillows!

Well it is a cool looking pillow too me! Boys, what do their heads know LOL! My son would be the same way actually. He has to have a special sleeping pillow at night, two in fact. Thanks for sharing with the newbie party.

Linda, I think the pillow turned out great…but you know teenage boys. Now, maybe if you had used an old dirty sock (smile).

Ha ha! I am yet to meet a man who appreciates throw pillows for all their non-functional pillow-y goodness 🙂

I am inlove with these. SERIOUS! I’m going to have to go read your tut on how to do an envelope pillow. Being that I am a ‘newbie’ to the pillow-making world…I know very little. lol.

Gorgeous cushions! My hubby doesn’t get throw pillows either… perhaps it’s a gender thing? He thinks the best spot for them is on the floor too (although, when he is lying on the floor in a pool of sunlight, he likes nothing better than to pop a cushion under his head! lol)

Hey Linda-
I featured you first in line from last week’s creative juice this evening…{and shamelessly plugged your shoppe as well}…
My Moosey is sick, but will be taking you up on the brunch date soon. Hope the car is better. 🙂
